PC's Second Half Rally Falls Short, Lose to Northwestern 72-63

Providence was hurt throughout the night by poor shooting, as the team went 8 for 35 from three (22.9%) and 22 of 72 from the field (30.6%).
The loss drops Providence to 2-1 on the year, while Northwestern improves to 1-1 overall, after losing to Merrimack by ten points in their season opener.

After trailing by 11, 40-29, at the half, the Friars found themselves trailing 50-31 with 17:28 to play in the game.
Midway through the second half, Providence would start their rally.
Trailing 55-35 with 12:37 to go, Maliek White knocked down a jumper and Luwane Pipkins would drain a three to cut the Friars deficit to 55-40 with 11:19 to go.
Providence would go on a 20-5 run capped off by a three from David Duke to cut Northwestern’s lead to 60-55 with 6:05 to play in the game.
After the Wildcats went up 62-55, the Friars would cut their deficit to three, 62-59 on a layup by Alpha Diallo with 2:16 to play in the game.
However, that is as close as the Friars would get.
A layup by Northwestern’s Ryan Young and a series of free throws by Anthony Gaines would push the Northwestern lead to 66-59 with 1:07 to play in the contest.
Providence would get back to within five, 66-61, with 25 seconds left to go, but Northwestern would convert on all their free throws to seal the win.
Diallo led the Friars with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Duke added 14 points and five rebounds.
They were the only two Friars to reach double figures scoring.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, November 16 when they host St. Peters at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
