PC a No-Show for Final Home Game, Pounded by Marquette

The Providence College men’s basketball team was crushed by last-place Marquette at home on Wednesday night.

The Friars lost 78-56.

A run by PC in the final minutes made the score look closer, but make no mistake about it — it was a house of horrors kind of night.

Marquette came to Providence 5-13 in the Big East and 10-19 overall.

The Friars were showing vagaries of life at 14-15 and 7-11, and a 3-game winning streak.

The Friars on senior night — if there is such a thing anymore scored just 23 points in the first half and trailed 37-23 at the half.

The second half was not much better.

Friar sharpshooter Stefan Vaaks finished 1-12.

Jason Edwards 2-11.

Jaylin Sellers finished with 18 but was just 5-13.

As a team, the Friars shot 31% from the field and 23% from behind the 3-point line

Adrien Stevens led Marquette with 21 points.

The loss will only feed the fire about the future of Friar coach Kim English.

The Friars' last regular-season game is Saturday in Washington, D.C., against former Coach Ed Cooley and Georgetown. PC lost at home to the Hoyas after leading by 21-points in the second half.
