Providence was leading 40-39 when, on a breakaway by St. John's Bryce Hopkins, PC’s Duncan Powell right arm hammered Hopkins in the face on a layup.

Hopkins, of course, is a former Friar.

The foul sparked a brawl. Four St. John’s players were ejected for leaving the bench: Sadiku Ibine Ayo, Kelin Odin, Ruben Prey, and Dillon Mitchell.

For the Friars, Powell was ejected as was Jaylin Sellers. Powell was ejected for fighting and will automatically miss the next game. But, the Big East Conference could hand down additional punishments.

The game was delayed for 19 minutes.

After the chaos and the free throws, St. John’s went on a blistering 8-0 run.

The Friar meltdown continued. With 5:00 left in the game and St. John's leading by 11 (69-58), PC's Jamier Jones was ejected for slamming Zuby Ejiofor to the floor.

The final numbers: 4 ejections for St. John's and 3 for PC.

The final game score was St. John's 79, PC 69.
