The New England Patriots have placed wide receiver Josh Gordon on season-ending injured reserve due to a knee injury, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

This is the second straight year in which Gordon’s season has been cut short.

The move comes a day after the Patriots acquired wide receiver Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a second-round pick.

Gordon With Patriots

In six games with the Patriots in 2019, Gordon has hauled in 20 passes for 287 yards and one touchdown.

However, Gordon suffered a knee injury in New England’s week six game against the New York Giants.

He then missed the Patriots week seven matchup with the Jets.

Last season with the Patriots, Gordon caught 40 passes for 720 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games before being suspended by the NFL.

Wide Receiver Depth Takes Hit

Gordon heading to injured reserve means that the Patriots wide receiver group takes another hit, just one day after being bolstered by the addition of Sanu.

New England’s depth chart at wide receiver is Sanu, Julian Edelman, Phillip Dorsett and. rookies Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski.

Rookie N’Keal Harry is expected to come off of injured reserve and be ready to play in New England’s week nine matchup with Baltimore.
