The New England Patriots have released wide receiver Antonio Brown, the organization announced on Friday.

“The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown. We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time,” said the team in a statement on Friday afternoon.

"Thank you for the opportunity Patriots," Brown wrote.

Brown’s release comes after new allegations were unveiled late Thursday night revealing that Brown allegedly sent intimidating texts to one of his accusers.

As GoLocalProv has reported, Brown is facing allegations of sexual assault and rape by his former trainer Britney Taylor.

Taylor reportedly met with the NFL for more than ten hours on Monday.

Brown played one game with the Patriots and hauled in four catches and a touchdown pass.

Brown practiced with the Patriots on Friday morning before being cut.

In his Friday press conference, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had the following to say about Brown:

"I know there are questions about Antonio. We take all the situations with our team very seriously. There are some things that we're looking into, but I'm not going to have any comment on any of the off-the-field situations or questions on that.”

Belichick cut his press conference short after repeated questions on Brown.
