No men’s sports program at Brown University has a greater winning tradition than lacrosse.

However, on Saturday, Brown lost to the University of Pennsylvania 11-6. The Bears are now 0-6 on the season.

And, of the 76 Division I programs ranked by RPI, Brown was ranked 46th on Saturday.

In 2016, Brown lacrosse went to the Final Four, losing in the semi-finals to the University of Maryland by a goal.

Brown was led by the top player in the country, Dylan Molloy, who played the semi-final game with a broken foot.

Brown’s 2016 success was no anomaly. It had also made the Final Four in 1994.

Hard Fall Since 2016

The program has fallen hard since that latest championship run.

The men’s program has had only one NCAA appearance since the Final Four — previously it had 14 appearances.

And, this year, Brown’s season has no let-up.

Of the eight remaining games, seven of the teams are ranked in the top 20 or this week received votes for the top 20.

Brown coach Mike Daly has coached the team since 2017 and has a 43-46 record in 7 and a half seasons.
