Republican John Loughlin to Run for Lt. Governor

Former Rhode Island State Representative and one-time candidate for U.S. Congress John Loughlin announced today that he is a Republican candidate for Lt. Governor.

In 2010, Loughlin lost narrowly to Providence Mayor David Cicilline 51%-47%.

Since that campaign, he returned to the U.S. Army, worked for the Veterans’ Hospital in Providence, and hosted a Saturday talk radio show.

Announced Democratic candidates for the office include Providence City Councilor Sue AnderBois, former State Senator Cyndi Coyne, and incumbent Sabina Matos.

In September, GoLocal reported Newport City Councilor - and former Newport Mayor - Xaykham “Xay” Rexford Khamsyvoravong is considering a run for Lt. Governor.

He presently has more than $118,000 in his campaign account.

- Coyne has $69,000 on hand.

- Matos has $45,000 in her campaign account.

- AnderBois’s account has $24,000 in cash on hand.

Presently, Loughlin’s state campaign account reports a negative balance of $2,127.37.
