Councilman Kevin Jackson has stepped down from his leadership positions following his arrest on Wednesday.

Providence City Councilman Kevin Jackson has stepped down from his leadership positions, following his arrest on Wednesday on misappropriation of funds and embezzlement charges. 

Council President Luis Aponte said that he accepted letters from Jackson on Wednesday evening which state that effective immediately, Jackson will no longer serve as City Council Majority Leader and Finance Committee member.

Jackson was released after arraignment and is due in Superior Court on July 15.

“I have accepted Councilman Jackson’s decision to step down from his roles as Majority Leader and member of the Finance Committee,” said Aponte. “I respect his decision and I wish him well.”
