Providence City Councilman Kevin Jackson is being arraigned today and his attorney Artin Coloian is "vigorously defending" the long-time Councilman.

Amy Kempe, Public Information Officer for Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, has said that the State Police are in charge of the investigation.

"There are four charges -- two misdemeanors and two felonies," said Kempe. "The misdemeanors are giving false documents and personal use of campaign funds. The felonies are for unlawful appropriation and embezzlement."

GoLocalProv was first to report Jackson's arrest earlier today.

Coloian on Record

"Kevin Jackson maybe one of the most selfless elected officials. He is totally dedicated to his constituents and young athletes," said Coloian. Jackson is known regionally and nationally for running the Cobras track team, a program he and Thom Spann started more than three decades ago to help Providence children be exposed to track and field. Numerous Cobra athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level at some of the top colleges in the country.

"I don't know what info or disinformation they (prosecutors) have received and what they are thinking," said Coloian.

Coloian is a top defense attorney in Rhode Island and along with a number of leaders in law enforcement has served as an expert on GoLocal's publication of the FBI's file on Raymond Patriarca.
