Gerry was well respected by those who knew him and was a natural leader. A constant thinker, he would tackle any problem head on. He was known for his handyman skills and was able to fix just about anything. No task was too big or too small, too easy or too complicated. He enjoyed helping others and was always willing to help family and friends with a project. In his retirement years, he took on restoring Mustangs as one of his many hobbies. You would often find him working on his cars in his beloved garage, or embellishing his well-kept yard, all while whistling his favorite tune. Gerry was a storyteller with a witty sense of humor, often reenacting the humorous details of his daily interactions with others. He also found joy in life’s simple things-a good cup of coffee, good conversation, and watching the Patriots with his son-in-law.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his 7 grandchildren who endearingly called him G-paw. He loved spending time with them and consistently attended their sports and school activities. He spent countless hours watching them by the pool, teaching them his favorite songs or cooking his famous G-paw roni. A perfect combination of loyal, tough and sensitive; his family adored him.
Gerry lived his life to his fullest and often said he had no regrets. He was a model Father, husband and grandfather, earning the love and respect of his family and friends who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jill Le and her husband Quang of Uxbridge, MA; six grandchildren, Ava, Hannah, Colin, Charlie, Helena and Corrine; and four brothers, Kenneth Dorgan, Mark Dorgan; Scott Dorgan and Steven Dorgan. He was the father of the late Rhonda Dorgan, and grandfather of the late Aidan Dorgan.
Visiting hours will be at the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, on Sunday, March 15th, from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. The Dorgan family will remain until everyone who comes to pay their respects, has an opportunity to do so. The funeral service and burial will be PRIVATE.
