NEW: Juvenile Arrested in Cranston Drive-By Shooting

Cranston Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a 17-year-old juvenile male from Providence in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred on January 14, 2026, on Pleasant Street.
At the time, Cranston Police had called the incident "targeted" - officers who responded said they located two 9mm shell casings in the roadway.
Police say injuries were reported; however, investigators later identified a bullet strike to the exterior of a nearby residence "believed to be the intended target."
About Investigation
According to police, through "video surveillance, Flock camera technology, and coordination with the Providence Police Department, detectives identified a white 2018 Hyundai Elantra bearing Massachusetts registration as the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was determined to have been stolen in Providence prior to the shooting and was later recovered by police in Providence."
"Further investigation included forensic processing of the vehicle and ballistic analysis through the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) — a nationwide system operated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives that compares ballistic evidence to link firearms to multiple crime scenes. NIBIN analysis confirmed that the shell casings recovered on Pleasant Street matched a Glock pistol that had been recovered in a separate investigation," said police.
Detectives "established probable cause to charge the juvenile male," and on February 13, 2026, members of the Providence Police took the juvenile male into custody. He was subsequently transported to Cranston Police Headquarters, where he was formally charged.
The juvenile male is charged with:
- Drive-By Shooting
- Possession of a Firearm by a Minor
- Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
- Firing in a Compact Area
