The investigation revealed that a husband and wife were walking eastbound on Everett Road and approached the intersection with Budlong Road. The couple observed a southbound vehicle stopped and waiting to turn onto Woodridge Road. Believing it was safe to cross, they entered the roadway. At that time, a silver or gray SUV traveling southbound overtook the stopped vehicle, allowing the pedestrians to cross, and proceeded through the intersection without its headlights illuminated.
The SUV struck both pedestrians and fled the scene, continuing southbound. Officers spoke with several witnesses; however, none were able to provide a detailed description of the vehicle beyond its color. “We have what we believe is a Honda/CRV silver/grey and we are expanding our search for this vehicle now that we have video evidence and a picture of the vehicle leaving the scene.
The husband was not injured. The wife sustained broken bones in her leg and foot and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by officers assigned to the Cranston Police Traffic Unit.
