The Barrington Police Department announced Friday that it concluded its investigation of written threats of violence made at Barrington High School that occurred in December 2021.
Following a two month investigation, which Barrington police said wa supported by the Rhode Island State Police and U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Department filed three charges against a minor on February 9 in Rhode Island Family Court.
The threat made on December 13, 2021 caused Barrington officials to cancel in-person classes the week of threat through the winter holiday break.

The charges announced by Barrington Police on Friday are as follows:
• Two Counts of Vandalism – Obstruction of Lawful Pursuits (R.I.G.L. §11-44-1)
• One Count of Disturbance of Public Assemblies Generally (R.I.G.L. §11-11-1)
“The Barrington Police Department takes threats of violence very seriously,” said Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia. “There have been far too many violent attacks in schools across the country for us not to do so. In this case, we will work with the Family Court, which is equipped to address juvenile incidents, to ensure that the community is protected and the young adult receives any services they may need.”
The Barrington Police Department reminds all students, parents and families that if they see something, to say something immediately, Correia added.
“If you or your child is aware of any threat directed at our schools on social media or anywhere else please notify a school official or the police immediately,” said Correia.
The Police Department can be reached at (401) 437-3935 or through their unrecorded anonymous Tip Line at 401-437-3933.
Information can also be communicated to the school district by calling (401)-245-5000 ext. 1 or through CrisisGo Barrington Public Schools Anonymous Tip Line.
