Governor Gina Raimondo announced she is signing a "stay at home" executive order for the State of Rhode Island on Saturday, after the first 2 coronavirus deaths in the state were announced.

"I have signed an Executive Order — I’m issuing a stay at home order through April 13," said Raimondo on Saturday.

"If you’re not getting food, medicine, gas, or going to work, it’s pretty simple. You can go for a walk, to the park, outside, if you do it with ample social distance," said Raimondo.

Latest Numbers

Raimondo announced 36 new cases for 239 cases of COVID-19 cases in Rhode Island in total.

"This is a reminder of the stakes that we face. We’re up to 29 hospitalizations — in the weeks to come we’re going to be climbing up the curve. I don’t want folks to be surprised when they see that happening," said Raimondo.

"For those who aren’t following directives, we need to do better," she said.

Raimondo spoke to the noncompliance issues in the state with social distancing directives.

"Our best estimate is that we have 50% compliance," said Raimondo. "The seawall at Narragansett beach [on Friday] had crowds too close together in violation. Big box stores — grocery stores — in smaller retailers — parks and beaches all over the state you would have seen far over 10 people together in close proximity. Far too many house parties of more than 10 people. Knock it off — you are risking the lives of people in this state."

New Directives

All non-critical retail businesses must close until April 13.

Raimondo ordered no gatherings larger than 5 people.

Anyone coming from any other state -- into Rhode Island -- has to now self-quarantine for 14 days.
