NEW: RI Not Ready for “Outbreak Like NY” Says Raimondo, 38 New Coronavirus Cases For 203 Total
Saturday, March 28, 2020
Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo announced 38 new cases of coronavirus in Rhode Island on Friday, bringing the total to 203.
The amount now marks the biggest increase over a one day period after 33 were announced on Thursday -- and 28 people are currently hospitalized in Rhode Island.

"We are not ready for a surge of cases. It’s on every single one of us at every single moment to please obey the directives you get from me, the Department of Health — we can do it better than any state in America," said Raimondo. "Give us a little more to time to get our system set up before we see any surge in cases."
More New York Restrictions
"If you find yourself in close proximity to people — stop, pause, change, and get yourself some distance," said Raimondo. My approach has been incremental — I want to take this in as small a bite as possible, to keep us safe and have some semblance of normal life."
Raimondo announced how long executive orders would be effect in the state would now be, including mandating that dine-in -- but not delivery or takeout -- remain closed until April 13.
On Thursday, Raimondo announced that State Police and local authorities would be enforcing a self-quarantine for people coming or returning to Rhode Island from New York -- and on Friday, Raimondo strengthened the measure.
"Law enforcement will be going door to door targeting those properties we know [where people] might have come from New York," said Raimondo.
"I know it’s unusual, extreme, and some people don’t agree with it," said Raimondo. "I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think it was necessary. We’re not shutting down our borders — but if you want to seek refuge in Rhode Island, you must quarantine for 14 days. "
