"I came out here today because I want to support my city and the people that live in my city. Black lives do matter. I'm tired of the racism that goes on through so many of the actions of our government and police department. We are trying to start a conversation. If we can work together and sit down and talk and figure things out, rather than being condescending, if we can find common ground I do think we can solve some of these problems," said Sam Muskelly-Marcher.

The event took police during the hieght of a jam-packed Federal Hill. The neighborhood was in the third day of their celebration of Columbus Day Weekend.

"We're here to fight for change, whether it be social change, economic change, or change to the way police departments are treating people of color. "When the Providence Police Department released a statement recently about #BlackLivesMatter, we found it disrespectful and ignorant of what people locally, state-wide and nationwide are saying about the police."

The protestors issued the following letter.
