EDITORIAL: Fraud Claims Aren’t Credible— Lancia and Other GOP Just Plain Lost
Saturday, November 28, 2020
RI GOP candidates who continue to claim they were somehow cheated out of an election victory are simply delusional.
Robert Lancia sought a seat in the 2nd Congressional District and he lost.
Just a few issues. First, Lancia did not get enough votes to win. It really wasn't close. Lancia lost to Jim Langevin 58% to 41% -- more than 50,000 votes.

He did not build a credible social media strategy.
He did not put in the effort to build an email strategy to communicate with voters.
Two years earlier he lost his reelection to his own local House seat — where people know him best.
He even lost to a candidate who lost in his own reelection primary in 2020. Lancia in 2018 lost to a guy who was a loser in 2020.
Lancia is claiming that there was election fraud in Rhode Island in 2020. The only problem is there was no election fraud reported. Zero claims.
Lancia has had his own issues, in 2018, then-House Minority Leader Patricia Morgan claimed that office staff told her Lancia was asking them to do campaign work on government time -- and Lancia refuted the charge.
Morgan said she sent a formal letter to Lancia telling him to halt campaign activities in the office
And, in 2016, GoLocal reported about Lancia's non-profit -- an organization for veterans that made big promises but produced little success.
In 2020 in Rhode Island, some Republicans won big elections. Republican Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung defeated the most powerful man in Rhode Island politics, Speaker of the House Nick Mattiello and it was not close. Was there fraud in that race?
Cranston Mayor-elect Ken Hopkins won a highly competitive race against a well-funded and well-organized Democrat. Was there fraud there too?
Or was there fraud just in Lancia's race and those GOP candidates that...lost?
For GoLocal, we love to hunt down and investigate reports of election fraud and have reported on questionable activity in the past. See here, too.
But, this cycle there were zero reports — there were no credible reports, there weren’t even any non-credible reports of election fraud.
The only fraud is losers complaining weeks after they were cheated.
The reality is complainers like Lancia are just losers.
