Newport Skating Center Set to Open for Full Winter Season

The Newport Skating Center is on schedule to open at its downtown Newport Yachting Center location for the winter season on Friday, December 9 with a tree lighting ceremony.
"We are busy preparing for the rink’s opening and turning the heart of Newport’s downtown into a winter wonderland once again starting on Friday, December 9,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, President and CEO of Waterfront Productions, the parent company of Newport Waterfront Event.

Like last year, the Newport Skating Center will have a full schedule of activities planned for the winter.
Activities include #CARRYLIGHT Friday Nights where guest can show us ways they ignite light and hope in the world with a video campaign, Family Fun Nights, Skates with Santa, Learn to Skate camp, community outreach support programs with non-profit groups including a Toy Drive for Santa’s Workshop at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and, of course, the grand opening and traditional tree lighting ceremony on Friday, December 9.
Looking for Support
The rink relies on corporate sponsorships and community support to finance the rink's operation and maintenance.
“With that in mind, if any business or organization is interested in being part of three months of fun, healthy, family-friendly programming and activities we would welcome your involvement to ensure that this is our best skating season ever," said Palmieri.

Newport Skating Center
The Newport Skating Center was first opened in 2000 and features a 9,000 square foot skating surface big enough to accommodate as many as 100 skaters at a time.
Skate rentals, hot beverages, comfort foods, lighting for night skating, regular admission discounts, FREE parking and viewing spaces for the public are also featured at the rink.

It's practically a tradition for a lot of people but ice fishing is an interesting winter experience. Head out to the ponds and see what you can get.
But be safe, it takes 4-6 inches of ice to support a person and 8-10 inches to support a vehicle.

Ice Climbing with Adventure Spirit

For the adventurous out there, Adventure Spirit in Vermont is your place for ice climbing. Choose from climbing at Bolton Quarry, Bristol Cliffs or even Smuggler's Notch to be lead by one of their experienced instructors. East Bay Bike Path, Bristol to Providence RI
Grab your poles and skis and head down to the East Bay Bicycle Path for some Cross Country Skiing. Of course, you can go cross country skiing anywhere there is snow and some flat land, but the East Bay Bike Path stretches about 14 miles from Bristol to India Point Park in Providence.

Lowell Winterfest

The 16th Annual Lowell Winterfest is set to take place on February 19 and 20th.
The schedule f events includes free ice skating, an opening ceremony and a big winter carnival that the kids will simply love.

Zip Line
