Beethoven's Wig

The Newport Music Festival is set to kick off the 2nd weekend of their 49th festival beginning on Friday and running through Sunday.

The festival began on July 7 and runs through July 23 and features a total of 56 concerts.

Beethoven’s Wig

Friday, July 14 - 4 p.m. Chateau-sur-Mer Tent: Our annual family concert features Beethoven’s Wig starring pianist, raconteur and showman, Richard Perlmutter. Beethoven’s Wig breathes new life into classical music by including witty lyrics to works by Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and more.

 

Mostly Mozart

Friday, July 14,  8 p.m. The Breakers:

Mozart’s Overture to Le Nozze De Figaro, 

Horn Concerto No. 4 in E♭ and Piano Quartet No. 2 will be performed by our stellar festival artists including violinists Irina Muresanu and Gabriela Diaz, Sergey Antonov, cell and pianists Daniel del Pino and Grigorios Zamparas.

 

Ravel, Rorem and Rags

Saturday, July 15,  11 a.m.  Chateau-sur-Mer

The virtuosic duo of violinist Irina Muresanu and pianist Roberto Plano will perform popular works by Ravel and Rorem, Joplin and more.

 

Opera Night in Newport

Saturday, July 15,  8 p.m.  The Breakers

A special evening of opera in collaboration with Palm Beach Opera. Four rising opera 

stars from the Benenson Young Artist Program will perform arias, duets, and ensemble 

works, featuring some of the most beloved repertoire from centuries of great operatic composers, including Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Rossini.

 

Seven Beethoven Piano Sonatas for Seven Pianists

Sunday, July 16,  11 a.m. The Elms

This is a marathon you’ll want to prepare for. Join us for an epic presentation of seven Beethoven piano sonatas, featuring seven superb festival pianists including Terezie Fialova, So-mang Jeagal and Bernadine Blaha. Pieces performed will be the “Grand Sonata,” “Pathétique,” “Tempest,” and “Waldstein”

Au Courant: a Benefit for Child & Family at Fort Adams

Au Courant celebrates the creative talents of designers in the Northeast.

This year’s event will feature StyleWeek SWIM, a showcase of current resort and swim collections from designers all over the northeast.

Celebrity stylist, Derek Warburton, known for styling stars like Beyoncé, Miranda Kerr, and Heather Graham will be a special guest and will also debut his fine jewelry line.

Touro Park located on Bellevue Avenue is turned into a Japanese-American Cultural Center, featuring demonstrations, workshops, and displays. Including Arts and Crafts and Martial Arts Demonstrations.

Bristol "Tales of the Slave Trade" Walking Tour

History buffs, this is for you. 

Linden Place Museum will host a walking tour of Linden Place Mansion and downtown Bristol, focused specifically on Bristol’s DeWolf Family and their involvement in the transatlantic slave trade.

Learn how Bristol, New England, and America were impacted by the slave trading DeWolf’s of Linden Place from museum educator, Robin Tremblay. Tremblay has extensively researched Rhode Island’s connections to slavery and has led many tours along Bristol’s slavery trail.

Tours run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Taiko Drum Concert at Cardines Field 

The Taiko Drum Concert will feature Odaiko New England, one of the top taiko groups.

They will entertain listeners with their speed, power, dramatic choreography and sound. Then Shin Daiko will perform, during their debut in Newport. The conclusion will be an exciting performance as the two groups team up for a grand finale!

NIMFest Concert Series at King Park Beach

NIMFest concerts are held Sunday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the King Park gazebo on Wellington Avenue.

Concerts are presented free by the City of Newport featuring the best in regional and local talent.

The 2017 series celebrates women artists in folk, bluegrass, jazz, blues, rock, and everything in between.
