I've always been intrigued when I hear about a show with indie bands that each bring something different to the stage while at the same time exuding perfect harmony. This past Thursday at The Fete Lounge provided that distinct experience with So Many Dynamos from St. Louis headlining a very rad time. Local acts The Adventures Of and The Universes along with Pretty & Nice from Boston supported the bill and I along with everyone else was looking forward to see what each band had in store. With the amount of emerging talent on stage, Fete was the hot spot for people looking to kickstart the end of the week.

The Adventures Of

A alternative rock band with tinges of pop in The Adventures Of reminded me a lot of Matt & Kim and P.J. Harvey, their drummer really stuck out to me with the power and emphasis coming from his kit. My favorite songs from their performance were "Chapters", "Full Speed Ahead", "Monster Police" and "Animal". The Adventures Of are one of those acts that have been playing around Providence for a little while now but have been hovering under the radar, check them out next time they play at your favorite venue and I know you'll become an instant fan.

The Universes

One of the most eclectically talented bands you'll ever see who have been the subject of conversation all over the Providence music scene as of late, The Universes came up next and they sounded even heavier and louder than usual (as if that was even remotely possible). I noticed a strong punk influence with them this time around but always keeping this avant-garde post-pop style that makes them different than anyone else around The Creative Capital. "Blade Runner", "Speaking In Colors", "Minimum Wage", "Face The Sensation", "No Plan" and "Goodnight Mrs. Nothingpants" we're part of a performance that was abrasive, stage-shaking and at points very comical. The Universes currently have one of the best local recordings of 2013 in The Hot EP and you should get it on their BandCamp page right now. It that alone doesn't float your boat, go see The Universes at AS220 on July 16th and witness a band that everybody and their grandmother is talking about.

Pretty & Nice

When I heard Pretty & Nice on this night I immediately thought of every Britpop band that's ever existed along with loving their rhythms that hit you like a ton of bricks being tossed from the roof of a burning building. Needless to say, I liked this quartet from Boston a whole lot and I can see why they're one of the biggest local acts up there. "Mummy Jets", "New Czar", "Money Music", "Capsules" and "Yonkers" really stuck out, it's always cool to see a band that has a little bit of pop not being afraid to turn the amps up to 11 and blow the stage apart. Pretty & Nice have a new album out titled Golden Rules For Golden People that came out this past April, I can't wait to give it a listen and you should definitely grace your ears with its presence.

So Many Dynamos

To finish off this night of musical madness was So Many Dynamos who had this dance-punk sound I liked very very much. A wide assortment of keyboards and cowbells really made their style uniquely appealing and they had the crowd dancing all over the place, even a couple bartenders were getting their groove on. I hope I get to see So Many Dynamos come through Providence again and if you manage to have that refrigerator magnet that is also a digital EP these guys came out with last year please let me know where I can get one, yes there is such a thing that apparently exists. It once again was one of those shows that kicked major ass, log on to fetemusic.com to see when the next show is coming through that'll give you that sense of bliss you've been waiting for.
