Rhode Island loves to jump-start its St. Patrick's Day fun, and this weekend is proof, with an Irish festival of fine food in Newport and a parade in Providence. Get psyched, and check out the other must-do events this weekend. 

Providence St. Patrick's Day Parade

Saturday  Whether you’re Irish or not, join in the 19th Annual St. Patty’s Day parade this weekend celebrating heritage. Dance to bagpipes, fifes, and drums, marvel at Irish and Bolivian dancers, laugh with clowns and puppets, and wave on public figures. 12 noon, Smith Hill Providence, Smith Street, Providence. Fine Foods of Ireland

Friday-Sunday  This weekend indulge in the taste of Ireland at the 11th Annual Kinsale Ireland Festival of Fine Food. Chefs from Newport, and its sister city in Ireland, Kinsale, break out their skills in a series of specialty dishes at local restaurants around Newport. Bill T. Jones brings Story/Time to Providence this weekend.

Saturday  Get swept away in a sea of elegant story telling through dance, language, and music. Tony Award winner, Bill T. Jones brings, “Story/Time” to the stage. Enjoy an array of 70 beautifully performed stories inspired by Merce Cunningham and John Cage's "Indeterminacy.” Partial nudity and adult themes. 8 pm. Art Show and Taste of Germany

Saturday  More in the mood for German food, than Irish this weekend? The German American Cultural Society of America is putting on an art show featuring hors d'œuvre from all 16 German states, German wines and beers, and two floors of music celebrating German culture. 4:30 pm to 7 pm. Planting for the Planet

Saturday  Roger Williams Park Zoo is hosting a special program this weekend about climate change’s impact on the planet. Learn about the danger to polar bears and other animals, and how planting trees can help save them through fun games and info sessions. A portion of admissions into the zoo that day will go toward planting 200 new trees in Roger Williams Park, replacing trees taken out by storms this past year. 9 am-3 pm. One Love Wedding Expo

Sunday  Thinking about getting married? Just love the beauty weddings inspire? Head down to the One Love Wedding Expo this weekend for a day of delicate dresses, gourmet cakes, picture perfect photography, and all the things weddings are made of. The event will feature expos for same sex and heterosexual couples and a fashion show for local designers’ best and newest designs. 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Admission: $8.
