Bill T. Jones and Story/Time
Recognized for his life’s work with a MacArthur “Genius Grant” and Kennedy Center honors, Jones brings his full dance company to Providence for a FirstWorks residency to include master classes, community conversations, and FirstWorks' Your Story/In 140 project.
An exhilarating performance of 70 micro-stories in 70 minutes, Story/Time represents Jones’ eagerly anticipated return to the stage after 5+ years of directing and producing, including the Tony Award-winning Broadway hits Fela! and Spring Awakening.
Inspired by the work of composer John Cage’s groundbreaking 1958/59 performance piece Indeterminacy, Story/Time operates on the principles of chance to create each riveting performance anew. Jones himself commands center stage—narrating poignant and personal stories animated by his full company in a landscape of dance and original music by noted electronic music composer Ted Coffey. It’s an amazing dance-theater ‘first’ for Providence that can’t be missed!
