The Dropkick Murphys Return to Mohegan Sun Arena Tonight
Our early spring weather is more than enough reason to get out this weekend. Another reason is that there’s some great music around town. Everyone’s favorite Celtic Punk band from Boston leads our list and we continue to feature some innovative local artists, who are creating great music around the edges of popular culture. Check out our slide show “5 Live Music Musts” for all the details.

Long Trees at Columbus
Don’t miss a CD Release show tonight from RI’s Long Trees at the Columbus Theatre, and there’s an interesting backstory. Trees leaders Rafael Attias and Dan Wright, both veterans of the RI music scene, put together their new album as an extension of a soundtrack of a movie project with actor James Franco, who was a student of Attias at RISD. The result is Drifting, a really sweet sounding album featuring that “Cosmic Americana" sound with pedal steel guitar, dobro, and hip “West Coast Sensibility.” Music starts at 9PM with Field Drums and the Quahogs opening. Tickets $10 in advance, $12 day of show.

Back to the 80's at Lupos
OK, admit it - you long for big hair, neon fashion, synth-pop, and Donkey Kong. Simpler times, perhaps. So head to Lupo’s tonight for “Back to the 80’s with Jessie’s Girls,” a NYC based collaborative of pop and rock singers including Jenna O’Gara, Mark Rinzel, and Constantine Maroulis, the Tony nominated star of Rock of Ages and American Idol finalist. It’s part cover band, part theatre, but all 1980’s. Tickets are $25, doors at 8:30.
