“5 Live Music Musts,” which previews the best local concerts, moves to a slide show format this week. And just in time for the cold weather, the concert calendar is rapidly heating up. This week, we’ve got summer’s greatest band and Mardi Gras madness along with a few other exciting shows this weekend.

Mardi Gras Ball Saturday
The biggest party of the season is tomorrow night at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston. The 24th annual Mardi Gras Ball, produced by Chuck Wentworth of Rhythm and Roots fame, promises to have you dancing all night long. Performers include Cajun and Zydeco favorites CJ Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band, Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas, and Cajun Hall of Famer, Jesse Lége with Bayou Brew. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door and are available here.

Beach Boys Valentines Day
Here’s a sure to way to warm up your valentine on the coldest day of the year. Head out to the Park Theatre and see the Beach Boys as they return to Cranston for a show that’s sure to remind you of hot summer nights. Mike Love leads the touring band that also includes longtime member Bruce Johnston and Newport’s own John Cowsill. A few tickets remain for the Valentine’s Day show. Click here for details.

Lee Fields at Fete
Lee Fields and the Expressions promise to bring their sizzling neo-Soul vibe to Fete tomorrow night. The sound is 70’s R&B retro soul and if you haven’t heard them yet, you’re seriously missing out. It’s the kind of music many once said they don’t make anymore; but wait, Lee Fields is still making it! Show is at 7PM and tickets are only $15 here.

Southside Johnny Friday
Southside Johnny returns to Rhode Island tonight for a date at the Greenwich Odeum, a recently revived venue with a number of top shows down the pipe. Jersey’s finest will be joined by longtime band THe Asbury Jukes for a great night of Rock and Roll. Head back to the Odeum next Thursday for a rare show from boogie-woogie rock legend Leon Russell. Late word is that this show is sold out.

Slambovia in Newport Sat
The Slambovian Circus of Dreams is a NY based band that is a little hard to pin down. From the dark reaches of the imaginary land of Slambovia, the band brings a revved up rock sound and play everything from Dylan covers to original Christmas music. The show is part of the Common Fence Music series and will be held at the Channing Church in Newport Saturday night. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
