Indie-punks Turf War finished strong with their unique sound on Saturday.

When it's a Saturday night and there's a stacked rock & roll bill going on at The Met, it's an absolute no-brainer to come through and enjoy an amplified extravaganza. Indie-punks Turf War headlined a show for the ages with Atlantic Thrills, Dead Confederate's T. Hardy Morris and Ask The Dead that was bound to kick some major musical ass. Sometimes after a rough and busy week you need a night to blow off some steam and let it all hang out. This past Saturday at The Met was the #1 destination to make that happen.

Ask The Dead

A punk band from Providence that is one of my favorite reasons why the genre and lifestyle isn't even close to being extinct, Ask The Dead set off the night with furious energy and extreme vigor. "So It Goes", "Stockholm Syndrome", "What Big Teeth You Have", "Saturn Devouring His Son", "Autopassenger", "Nonlocality" and "The Leans" were part of a dynamic performance that exuded sheer intensity. Ask The Dead's next show in The Creative Capital will be at AS220 on June 28, head on down and experience genuinely real punk rock.

T. Hardy Morris

You might know him from his singing and guitar-slinging with Atlanta, GA rock & rollers Dead Confederate and the supergroup Diamond Rugs but T. Hardy Morris went up with his new solo project and it was soothing to the heart and mind. "Hardstuff", "History's Hoax", "OK Corral", "Audition Tapes", "Beauty Rest", "Low Hopes" was part of a performance with Matt Stoeasel on slide guitar, Thayer Sarrano on keys and Bryan Dufresne alternating on drums had a unique lo-fi quality to it that I absolutely dug. T. Hardy Morris has a solo album coming out soon titled Audition Tapes that's featuring a few of the songs that he performed. I can't wait to check it out when it's available and you should feel the same.

Atlantic Thrills

Garage rock lunatics that are always down to make you boogie, Atlantic Thrills went up next and had a couple people from the crowd cutting a rug. "Give It Back","So Long","On My Mind", "Drugs In It", "Light Shines", "Lies", "Fading Away", "The Beach" and "Past Life" highlighted a set that was flat out dirty. Atlantic Thrills are currently working on putting out their debut full length album, one of the many things that will make 2013 a special year for the Rhode Island music scene.

Turf War

Finishing off the night were Morris' fellow Atlantians Turf War and that had a groovy distorted & twangy rock & roll sound that gave my ears a sense of pure bliss. "Animal", "Cheers To The Years", "My Hometown", "Paid My Dues", "Great Escape", "Where I Belong", "Live And Die In Georgia" and "100 Years" had that gritty sound that felt like you were watching sandpaper getting electro shock therapy. Turf War currently has their debut album out titled Years Of Living Dangerously and are currently working on a follow up as I write this. I gotta get my hands on their debut and I can't wait to hear what else they have in store.

Just another fun show at The Met; log on to themetri.com and check out the calendar to see what'll be rocking the stage in the imminent future.
