Weinstein Sex Crimes Conviction Overturned by NY's Highest Court

The development by the New York Court of Appeals is a "stunning reversal in the foundational case of the #MeToo era," reported the New York Times.
The court "found that the trial judge who presided over Mr. Weinstein’s case had made a crucial mistake, allowing prosecutors to call as witnesses a series of women who said Mr. Weinstein had assaulted them — but whose accusations were not part of the charges against him," reported The Times. "Manhattan prosecutors must now decide whether to retry Mr. Weinstein."

As GoLocal had reported in 2020:
Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, 67, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault on Wednesday in New York.
Weinstein must also serve five years of post-release supervision and register as a sex offender.
As GoLocalProv reported back in February, Weinstein was found guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree.
The jury found him not guilty of the most serious charges against him — predatory sexual assault — which carries a sentence of up to life in jail.
Weinstein faced a maximum possible sentence of 29 years.
According to the Washington Post, the jury determined that Weinstein forced a sex act on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raped former actress Jessica Mann in 2013.
