The Race

The Volvo Ocean Race is considered the world's toughest and longest sporting event. The race is 39,000 miles, and began in October of 2014 in Spain and consists of stopovers in 11 ports all over the world.

The race is being led by American Team Alvimedica, led by skipper Charlie Enright of Bristol, Rhode Island.

"It will be very exciting to see family and friends and hopefully the massive crowds of people that await us. The team is in a good place, we have been training in the right direction, and we're poised to have a good leg," said Enright on the return to Newport.

Enright's  team consists of fellow Rhode Islander Nick Dana, of Newport who is the boat captain and bowman. The team's Onboard Reporter is Amory Ross, of Newport.  Team co-founder and watch captain is Mark Towill, of Kanehoe, HI, who attended Brown University with Enright,  and considers Rhode Island his second home.
