URI's Rally Falls Short, Fall to #15 New Hampshire 28-14

URI falls to New Hampshire
The University of Rhode Island (URI) football team’s second-half rally came up short on Saturday as they fell 28-14 to #15 New Hampshire in Durham.

The Rams have now dropped 20 straight games against ranked opponents.

The loss drops URI to 1-3 on the season, while New Hampshire improves to 3-1.

URI’s Rally Falls Short

After trailing 15-0 at the half, the URI Rams scored 14 straight points in the second half to get to within one.

URI’s Harold Cooper rushed 14 yards to the end zone with 12:40 left in the game to cut New Hampshire’s lead to 15-14 after the extra point.

However, New Hampshire would regain control

On their very next possession, New Hampshire quarterback Trevor Knight connected with Neil O’Connor on a 76-yard pass to give the Wildcats a 22-14 lead following the extra point from Morgan Ellman.

Knight would then connect with Malik Love on a 24-yard pass with 8:26 to play to give the Wildcats a commanding 28-14 lead.

Next up

URI returns to action on Saturday, September 30 when they visit in-state rival Brown in the annual Governor’s Cup game.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Brown Stadium.
