Sunday, June 26, 2016
Pepperdine graduate Fred Wedel shot a 6-under par 270 including a 2-under 67 on Saturday to win the Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club on Saturday afternoon.
"It was a special week. I was telling the guys after the round that this is my favorite amateur invite in the world. I love coming here and it is an honor to win," Wedel said.
This was Wedel's second win of the week as he won the Texas Amateur last Sunday.

Wedel birdied 6 of the first 15 holes to get to 4-under for the day and 8-under for the tournament but bogeyed the final two holes to take a score of 6-under into the clubhouse.
Sean Crocker was tied for the lead as he came up 18 just a few minutes later, however, he was unable to convert a 4-foot par putt to force a playoff.

Wedel played four years of golf at Pepperdine where he was a three time all-West Coast Conference selection.
He plans to turn pro after the U.S. Amateur.
