PC and Butler - the Tale of Two Halves, PC Wins 70-60 Behind Cartwright

Cartwright dominated at both ends of the court
The first half of the Providence College and Butler Bulldog's game was ugly for Friar fans. Missed lay-ups, blown coverages, and some ugly turnovers.

The Friars trailed at half-time 23-25, but it could have been far worse. PC was down 11-22 at one point., And then, nirvana.

The second half friar performance was sparked by 18 points and 11 assists from senior point guard Kyron Cartwright. Make no mistake about it, as good as Cartwright's offense was, his defense was better and it delighted the near sell-out crowd at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Alpha Diallo added 10 points, all of which came in the second half.

For the game, the Friars shot 50 percent from the field (26-of-52), -- they shot a blistering 73 percent for the second half. And under tremendous Friar defense the Bulldogs mustered a 35-percent mark on 22-of-63 shooting.

Kamar Baldwin led Butler with 25 points -- he looked as good as advertised and was the only Butler player in double figures.

The Friars (13-6, 4-2) trailed 29-25 to begin the second half, but Diallo came out of the gate flying to push Providence in front.

Diallo scored five straight, including a three-point play to even the score at 31.

Next up

The Friars return to action on Saturday, January 20 when they host #25 Creighton at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
