Newport Gulls Set to Host NECBL All-Star Game on Sunday at Cardines Field

The NECBL All-Star game is set for Sunday, July 17 at Cardines Field in Newport. 

“The All-Star Game is a tremendous opportunity for over 100 Major League Baseball scouts to see the best players the NECBL has to offer. I’m proud that Horan Building is associated with the premier event in the NECBL’s 2016 season," said Newport Gulls co-owner Mark Horan. 

Gulls general manager Chuck Paiva added “All-Star Weekend in Newport is the highlight of the 2016 NECBL season, and the All-Star Game will be another special event for the Newport Gulls. We thank the City of Newport, our countless sponsors and Gulls family members, our volunteers and staff, and the NECBL for working together to make sure this weekend is fun and successful."

Newport Gulls in the All-Star Game 

The South division All-Star team consists of 6 Newport Gulls players, all of whom will be coming off the bench. 

The six players are relievers Blake Cairness and Jake Cousins, catcher Charlie Carpenter, first baseman Gabe Snyder, second baseman Cole Fabio and outfielder Stephen Scott. 

All-Star Weekend 

The All-Star weekend begins with a private reception on Saturday night for scouts, league officials, and other VIPs, followed by the NECBL North and South players arriving in Newport on Sunday morning. 

Gates open at Cardines Field at 1:30 p.m. and the skill competition is set to begin at 2 p.m.

The Gulls are in a battle for the division title and then a championship after that.

The Festival provides an opportunity to see, sample, and experience authentic Japanese arts, cuisine, performances, and traditions. Summer 16 Showcase 

Anchor Bend Glassworks unveils their newest work at the Newport Gallery. The gallery is open rom 10 a..m.  to 5 p.m. 

These conversation pieces show the pride the artists take in their home state of Rhode Island, while also portraying their own unique spin on glassblowing. Creating exceptional glass for 13 years, Michael Richardson, Justin Tarducci, and Timothy Underwood continue to honor and expand the art of glassblowing and give back to the Newport community.

Along with its mansions and America's Cup yachting history, Newport is known as the resort city where Jaqueline Bouvier married then Senator John F. Kennedy on September 12, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Spring St. in Newport.
