The Newport Gulls have promoted long-time broadcaster Nick Lima to the front office and the position of Director of Baseball Operations, effective immediately. Lima previously worked in the media department for 12 years.

“I’ve been associated with the Gulls on a part-time basis for a long time now, and have enjoyed every minute I’ve been part of this amazing organization. I’m excited to take on this expanded role, and honored that the Gulls ownership group has entrusted me with this important responsibility," said Lima.

Lima's responsibilities include coordinating Gulls sponsorships, advertising, game day operations, ticketing, and managing Cardines Field on game night, while also managing the team's volunteers, interns, and staff. He will continue to oversee the team's media operations and will remain the primary press contact for media inquiries.

“My job this summer will be to make sure that the Newport Gulls experience for our community is the best it’s ever been, and I look forward to the challenge of ‘Raising the Bar in Summer Collegiate Baseball’ even higher,” Lima said, referencing the Gulls long-time tagline. “General Manager Paiva and the owners expect nothing but the best for our fans, players, volunteers, interns, sponsors, host families, coaches, and other community partners – a challenge I look forward to. I am honored to have the privilege to work for an organization that gives back to the community at such a high level, all while fielding one of the best summer collegiate baseball teams in the nation," Lima said.

As a broadcaster, Lima was the pregame and postgame show host for Gulls home games, serving as lead play-by-play broadcaster and traveling with the team on the road.

Via the NECBL Broadcast Network he has had the call for 27 playoff series, including league championship series in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2014, and multiple exhibitions against Team USA, Team China and several Cape Cod Baseball League teams.

Lima was elected by NECBL officials and general managers in 2009 and 2010 as the All-Star Broadcaster for the Southern and Eastern Division, respectively, having the call for both games.

Lima, with his brother Tom, won the PEG Award for “Best Sports Program in Rhode Island” for their video coverage of the Gulls.
