Lincoln's Lindsay Mayer will look to lead her team to a state championship on Sunday.

Coventry softball defeated Bay View in the losers' bracket final by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday night, earning the Oakers a berth in the Division I state softball title game Sunday at 1pm against Lincoln at Rhode Island College.

Coventry will look to get some revenge on the Lions, as Lincoln handed the Oakers its only loss of the playoffs by a score of 3-1 to send Coventry into the losers' bracket.

Undefeated

Lincoln has not been beaten this season, with an overall record of 19-0. The Lions also have quite the winning streak on the line, as the defending champions have won a total of 42 games in a row and will try to make it 43 en route to another state title.

Stars to watch

There definitely won't be a lack of talent on display Sunday. Lincoln's Lindsay Mayer, who will play at the University of Virginia next year, has won the Gatorade Rhode Island Softball Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons. Mayer threw a complete game in Lincoln's 3-1 win over Coventry last week, allowing two hits and striking out five Coventry hitters. Mayer has dominated this season, compiling a record of 15-0 with a 0.82 earned run average. She also struck out an impressive 150 hitters in just 103 innings pitched.

Coventry's star pitcher, Kerrie DeLiberis, suffered the loss against Lincoln the first time around, surrendering three runs on six hits, but has been a standout pitcher all season. DeLiberis picked up the victory on Wednesday night against Bay View, allowing two runs and scattering 10 hits to secure a title berth for the Oakers.
