Lindsay Mayer won RI Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

For the second straight season, Lincoln High School's Lindsay Mayer has been named the Gatorade RI Softball Player of the Year.

Mayer has done it all this season for the Lions. On the mound, she is a perfect 15-0 with an eye-popping earned run average of 0.82, while striking out 150 batters in 103 innings pitched. She has also been one of the Lions' top hitters this season, compiling a .508 batting average to go along with three home runs and 27 runs batted in.

“Lindsay is a two-time team captain,” Lincoln head coach Richard Ryan said. “She's always the first one to practice and works the hardest. She's like having another coach on the field. Her teammates follow her lead and respect her on and off the field.”

Lincoln punched its ticket to the Division I fast pitch softball state championship with a winners bracket win over Coventry on Saturday. Mayer got the win on the mound for the Lions, tossing a two-hitter with five strikeouts. With the victory, Lincoln has now won 42 straight games.

Mayer, who's clearly been the best player in the state over the past two seasons, will attend the University of Virginia in the fall on a softball scholarship.

“I think she'll do very well when she gets to the University of Virginia,” Ryan said.

Mayer and Lincoln will look to win its 43rd straight game on Wednesday at 7pm at Rhode Island College, when they take the field in search of a Division I state title.
