The Brown Bears men’s basketball hung with the #4 Duke Blue Devils for more than 30 minutes before falling 75-50 on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.

The Bears trailed Duke by just eight points with 10:52 to play, and nine points, with 9:16 to play in the game before the Blue Devils pulled away over the final eight minutes.

"I'm grateful to Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and their administration for allowing us the opportunity to play this game. As a kid playing basketball growing up, this of one of the places you always see on TV and it was a good experience for our team to play in such a storied building. I felt we competed hard and could have played a little better down the stretch,” said Brown head coach Mike Martin after the game.

In the game, Brown struggled to handle Duke’s size as the Blue Devils grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and forced the Bears into 17 turnovers.

The Bears also hurt themselves at the free-throw line, converting just 8-of-18 attempts.

The loss drops the Bears to 5-6 on the season, while Duke improves to 11-1.

"Brown is a veteran team and well prepared, even though they had a long layoff. Mike (Martin) does a really good job. They're coming off their winningest season ever and they have older guys. They have seniors and two really good guys that could be All-Ivy in Brandon Anderson and Tamenang Choh,” said Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski after the game.

Brown was led by Anderson, who had 16 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Duke Pulls Away Late in 2nd Half

After trailing by ten, 41-31, in the opening minutes of the second half, Brown cut Duke’s lead to 43-35 on a layup by Joshua Howard.

Brown had chances to get closer, but Choh missed two free throws and Howard missed a layup.

Choh was 1-of-6 from the free-throw line in the game.

Anderson knocked down one of two free throws to make the score 43-36, with 15:18 left to play.

Duke would push their lead back up to ten, 48-38, with 13:33 left to play in the game on a layup by Wendell Moore jr.

A layup by Anderson would get the Bears back within eight, 48-40, before the Blue Devils would go on a quick 6-0 run to take a 54-40 lead on a Moore dunk with 10:52 to play.

The Bears would get back within nine, 55-46, on a Howard tip-in, with 9:16 to play, but would not get any closer.

The Blue Devils would go on a 14-2 run to take a 69-48 lead and seal the win.

Duke was led by Vernon Carey Jr., who had 19 points in the game.
