Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce to Support RI Bond Measures

The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted to support four bond measures that will be on the ballot on Election Day. Citing the importance of investing in the state’s education and infrastructure, business leaders from around the state agreed that the bond questions should be approved.

The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce will support the following bond questions:

·         Question 4: Higher Education Facilities Bond for the construction of a new College of Engineering building at URI.

·         Question 5: Creative and Cultural Economy Bond to fund capital improvement, preservation and renovation projects of Rhode Island Arts organizations.

·         Question 6: Mass Transit Hub Infrastructure Bond to fund enhancements and renovations to mass transit hubs.

·         Question 7: Clean Water, Open Space, and Healthy Communities Bonds

“It is critical that Rhode Island maintain focused on fiscally responsible investment, in order to create jobs, strengthen the economy, and improve our state’s business climate. We believe the bond questions on the ballot will move the needle forward and support efforts to improve our education system, workforce training, and overall infrastructure. In particular, the Chamber has consistently supported the state’s investment in the URI engineering school, as the project will be a boon for Rhode Island’s state university system, for students and for local businesses looking to hire top-notch engineers. We urge Rhode Islanders to support all four bond questions this November,” said Laurie White, President of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
