NEW: Governor-elect Raimondo Re-appoints Coit to DEM

Governor-elect Gina Raimondo today announced that she intends to re-appoint Department of Environmental Management Director Janet L. Coit and will submit her name to the State Senate in January for re-confirmation.
“During the past four years, Director Coit proved to be not only a strong advocate for the environment, but a skilled manager of a complex department,” said Governor-elect Raimondo on Coit.
Under Coit's leadership, her team launched a “Lean Government Initiative” to improve and increase efficiency of business processes to reduce turnaround times for permit decisions, and create a new Permit Application Center to provide consistent service to businesses.

Director Coit has led efforts to attract and leverage funding to reduce water pollution and redevelop former industrial sites. She also heads the state government’s effort to confront and prepare for issues relating to climate change.
