GOP candidate Allan Fung

Huffington Post is reporting that Rhode Island GOP candidate for Governor Allan Fung’s Press Secretary has Tweeted numerous racist comments.

According to the report, “Lindsay Crudele, a digital communications strategist who was raised in Cranston and whose family still lives there, came across some of Augustus’ tweets and thought it was important for state voters to be aware of them. So she took several screenshots and shared them with her followers.”

Andrew Augustus, press secretary for Fung made derogatory Tweets about women, Blacks, Asians.

He previously worked for WPRO radio, a Cumulus station in Providence -- as well as Providence Democratic Mayor Jorge Elorza.

In a statement, the Fung campaign said, "Mayor Fung has accepted the resignation of Andrew Augustus effective immediately.  Upon hire, an inspection of his social media account was conducted, but obviously not six or seven years back.  While Andrew is a different person now, and is extremely embarrassed by this, he does not want to reflect poorly on the Mayor or distract from any part of this campaign."

Augustus was paid approximately $3,500 a month as press secretary. He joined the Fung campaign on March 7, 2018.
