Cicilline had the following to say:

"First, I want to say thank you to John and Katherine and all of the members of the Democratic Caucus.

John Lewis told us when we began this fight earlier this morning, that this would not be an easy fight.

But we were unified as a caucus, not just in our strong support of the two very commonsense bills that Mr. Hoyer just described, but in our commitment to continue this fight every single day that we're in session until we see some action.

And we had members for the last 15, almost 16 hours, share stories about the epidemic of gun violence in this country. About the real names of individuals and faces of children that have been slaughtered because of gun violence in our country. And calling on our colleagues on the Republican side to take action.

Our constituents sent us here to get things done, they cannot believe that we can't get these things done.

And we had two very commonsense proposals that we spoke about relentlessly for 16 hours, in the hope that we would convince our Republican colleagues to do the right thing by the American people.

And what did they do?

While America was sleeping, they snuck out of Washington in the dark of night and left this business unfinished.

We will not rest. We will continue to make this fight until we have a vote on these bills and put into place some responsible gun safety legislation in this country.

Thank you."
