Following the press conference, police confirmed the suspicious death has now been ruled a homicide.

There have now been five homicides in the city in the past six weeks.

Fatal Shooting

"The Dunkin’ Donuts on Broad Street — [we] got a call around midnight for a shooting," said Lapatin, of the fatal shooting that took place on Saturday.

"Delron Fields, age 35, found shot to death in his car," said Lapatin. "He was parked in the parking lot at Dunkin’ Donuts. It seems like we have one shooter who ran up and fired several shots at him while he was sitting in his car."

"No details to put out yet [of the shooter]. We have some evidence that we’re working on. We still have a lot to do on that case, detectives are making progress.  It appeared he was by himself in the car," said Lapatin.

Suspicious Death in Park -- Now Ruled a Homicide

"Yesterday we were called to Roger Williams Park on the outskirts, [where] we found a male, I believe about 62 years old, he was lying in the street," said Lapatin.

"He had what we believe were two puncture wounds and a laceration. He was treated by passers-by until police and rescue arrived, and then he was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he passed away," he said.

"It still early, we’re still working it — the puncture wounds may have been gunshots — we’re waiting for the [medical examiner] to confirm that," said Lapatin. "We’re going to treat that as a suspicious death right now rather than calling it a homicide. We don’t know for sure what caused his death right now. We don’t have a positive address on him — he may be homeless, that is a possibility — we have identified him. It was around noon."

"We’re leaning towards he might have been placed there after he was injured," said Lapatin.

Following the press conference, Providence Police confirmed the man died from gunshot wounds -- and have change the cause of death to homicide.

Latest Shooting

"Last night, three people — at least one shot — but three went to the hospital, two with cuts and lacerations," said Lapatin. "I don’t know if that was from fragments or glass. The car was between Carpenter and Westminster — another vehicle pulled up on them and opened fire."

"The three got out and made their way through Carpenter Street and yards — there was a pretty good trail of blood. The three men got into a car that took them to the hospital," said Lapatin.

"The one who was shot is Vladimir Soto, 31, Lewis Black and Juan Oliver suffered lacerations we don’t know if it was from bullet fragments or glass or getting it running through yards. No vehicle description of the shooters," said Lapatin, of the incident that occurred around 10 PM.
