According to patient satisfaction surveys, below are the top ten hospitals in Rhode Island for the most recent Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems reporting period.
How do hospitals utilize this data?
"Analysis of HCAHPS and other patient experience data has informed Care New England’s focus on improving patient communication, education and responsiveness at all of our hospitals. Current initiatives include the design and implementation of a system-wide program of routine visits with patients by nurse managers to check on the care and service provided; a patient-centered customer service communication, teach back and service recovery training curriculum for all CNE staff; and a new set of core values which serve a CNE philosophy of care that holds patients, their families and all communities served at the center of all we do," said Raymond O. Powrie, MD and Chief Medical Quality Officer at Women & Infants Hospital.

Powrie continued, "To this end, we have several Family Advisory Councils that have been in place at Women & Infants Hospital and Butler Hospital (also a Care New England hospital, but not eligible for HCAHPS) for a number of years, a new one at Kent hospital, and one is in development at Memorial Hospital. The input of these councils is invaluable in ensuring that our patients and their families have a voice in all decision-making around the patient experience of care."

#10 Kent County Memorial Hospital
Warwick, RI

No. of Beds: 359
Kent Hospital is a nonprofit, acute care hospital which serves a number of towns in central Rhode Island. Kent’s Emergency Services Department receives 70,000 visits each year, making it the second busiest in the state.
Highlights: When surveyed, 80% of patients stated that 80% of their doctors communicated well with them, and 78% said that their nurses did.

This private, not-for-profit hospital was founded in 1863 and has been serving Southeastern New England for over 150 years. Rhode Island Hospital acts as a major trauma center for the region, while also providing the Ocean State with the only facility dedicated solely to pediatric care.
Highlights: 78% of patients reported that their doctors always communicated well, and and 76% said their nurses did.

St. Joseph's treated 188 patients in its first year in 1892, and now, it currently serves 99,000 patients annually.
