Providence Police Seize Guns From Victims of Prior Shootings

Providence police made multiple firearms arrests over the weekend, including seizing guns in possession of prior shooting victims.
About Incidents
On Sunday, police observed two men loitering in the rear lot of the Bank of America at 661 Broadway. One of the men was known to police from prior arrests and as the victim of a recent shooting.

Police exited their vehicle to investigate further at which time Santiago fled on foot. During the foot pursuit Santiago threw the white object, found to be a sock containing a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm, into a shallow area of the Woonasquatucket River.
The shooting victim was charged with Possession of a Firearm Without a License, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm after a Crime of Violence. Santiago was charged with Possession of a Firearm without a License and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
Shortly after 1 AM Monday morning, police observed a subject known to them as Gustavo Mazuelos in the rear parking lot of Club Levels. Police were aware that this subject had an active arrest warrant as well as prior firearms charges.
Police said that as they approached Mazuelos, he began to walk away while holding his waistband. Police quickly located Mazuelos concealing himself behind a vehicle in the parking lot. Mazuelos was placed into custody and a Glock 21C with extended magazine containing 21 rounds of ammuntion was located in a bag directly in the area Mazuelos was observed concealing himself. Mazuelos was charged with Failure to have License or Permit Required for Carrying a Pistol.
At approximately 2:15 AM Monday morning, police conducted a proactive vehicle stop on Gano Steet after observing a vehicle in India Point park after curfew hours resulting in a seizure of a stolen firearm. Both subjects in the vehicle had been prior victims of shootings.
