Providence Police Arrest Suspected "Hoodstar/4North Gang" Member

Providence Police arrested a man they say is a suspected gang member - who had prior gun arrests.
On Friday night, the Violent Crime Task Force was on patrol in the area of Smith Street and Chalkstone Avenue for suspected “Hoodstar/4North” gang activity.
Police say shortly after 8 PM, they saw Kurtis Lassiter - who police say is a known “Hoodstar/4North” gang member - in the Mandarin Garden parking lot.
Lassiter was previously arrested on gun charges in 2023, and he had also been arrested for his involvement in a shooting that occurred in the area on August 12, 2021; those charges were ultimately dropped.
Gun Charges
Police said Lassiter, upon spotting police, turned and shielded his body before running away. Based on his gun history, police said they pursued Lassiter.
Lassiter was ultimately apprehended on Zone Street, where officers say they saw him discard items in a bush.
Police say they found a gun with live cartridges in the magazine; police took the items and placed in their possession.
Lassiter is being charged with RIGL 11-47-8 License or permit required for carrying a pistol and RIGL 11-47.1-3 Large capacity feeding devices prohibited.
