Police Shut Down Carnival in Providence After Brawl Breaks Out—Multiple Arrests

Providence police said they were forced to shut down a carnival in the city Saturday night after a brawl broke out — and a crowd of dozens refused to disperse.
Police say pepper spray was used to break up the fighting.

Shortly after 7 PM on Saturday night, police on detail at the Rockwell Carnival at George J. West Park on Chalkstone Avenue said they observed a disturbance on Leah Street.
According to police, approximately 50-60 individuals had gathered around two juvenile males who were fighting another individual, who they had forced to the ground.
Police say they deployed pepper spray to stop the attack.
As police tried to disperse the crowd, they said multiple individuals became aggressive, including throwing a beverage at officers.
Police ordered the carnival representative to shut down the event; police said it took approximately 45 minutes to order the crowd to leave with no further incidents.
Two juveniles were taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital for treatment and two adults were arrested and transported to Central Station, according to police.
They are facing charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
