A whale washed ashore this weekend on Block Island - and resident George Mott was there early Sunday to capture the moment.

“Smelly day on Block Island, June 28, 2026,” shared Mott.

“Dead whale ashore just north of Fred Benson Town Beach.”

Earlier in June, a video of two whales off the coast of Block Island was deemed a “cool sighting” by an expert - who provided more insight into the encounter.

Cesin Curi - who along with his brothers, owns Los Andes and Brasa and Chifa restaurants - was fishing south of Block Island when they encountered the whales.
