A Rhode Island woman posted pictures on Wednesday of students partying in close proximity to Providence College in apparent violation of state social distancing and mask orders.

One student then messaged her personally and told her to "go fall down a flight of stairs."

Briel Delmonaco told GoLocalProv she was driving through the neighborhood when she saw the group congregating on Eaton Avenue -- and said she was disturbed.

“I was not trying to shame anyone, [but I was] totally disheartened with everything all of us are going through, this was so disrespectful and unsafe,” said Delmonaco.  "I mean, they could have gone and partied in the backyard if they wanted to."

Delmonaco said that after posting the pics, she “began getting friend requests” from students at PC — as well as threats.

"I’m in the event industry. I don't need the threats. We’ve been absolutely devastated. We’re not getting aid or funding and we’ll be out way longer than most," said Delmonaco. "I have not said one bad thing until now. But this was too much."

RI Gathering Size Still Limited to 5 -- Masks Required in Public

In Rhode Island, the stay-at-home order was lifted on May 8 -- but Governor Gina Raimondo has ordered that social gatherings will remain limited to 5 people through May 22.

“Typically, I don't share much on Facebook and honestly prefer to keep my personal life on the private side. Easily I could write a thesis on how much this epidemic has impacted every facet of all our lives. Devastation and implications that will no doubt last for months and years to come," Delmonaco posted to Facebook.

"Most importantly those unfortunate souls who have perished and the families who have lost loved ones. I have my health as do the people in my life; so I have no right to complain despite the havoc this pandemic has reeled professionally, personally, financially and mentally,” she added.

“Two cops drove right past them and didn’t do a thing,” she added. “The blatant lack of respect is what sent me right over the edge.”

“It made me sad — I can handle the threats and shrug that off,” said Delmonico. “What bothers me most is that it appears that the gentleman that sent that [message] to me is military.”

PC Director of Public Affairs Steve Maurano emailed the following statement on Wednesday night.

"While we have very few (less than 10 students) still on campus, there are a number of PC seniors living in off-campus apartments near the College who are still in those apartments. We have communicated with them on multiple occasions, urging them to abide by the Governor's Executive Order with regard to social distancing, wearing face coverings, etc."

The fact that some of those students are defying that order is disconcerting as they could pose a threat not only to themselves but to others they may encounter in the neighborhood.  The Dean of Students and the Chief of our Public Safety Division have been notified of their behavior, and the matter is now in their hands."

Maurano did not respond to the message sent by McClellan; efforts to reach McClellan were unsuccessful.
