Thursday, August 22, 2019
Reports of shots fired off of Elmwood Avenue in Providence on Thursday morning resulted in a police chase -- and crash -- that destroyed an electrical box on Broad Street.
"We'd had a call for shots fired on Whitmarsh, off Elmwood, [and when police officers arrive], the saw two vehicles following each other in close proximity," said Providence Police Major David Lapatin.
"They began to flee the area when police arrived -- the officers on the scene tried to stop them," said Lapatin. "They refused to stop. accelerated, and split up."

"That car was heavily damaged -- and both occupants fled on foot. One of them was apprehended -- Dario Vasquez, who was taken to Rhode Island hospital for injuries."
Lapatin said police found a firearm on top of the console in the car that had crashed.
"He's uncooperative [at this time]," said Lapatin.
