NEW: Cranston Council OKs Tax Raise
Wednesday, May 11, 2011
The Cranston City Council last night approved a $245.2 million budget that includes a 70-cent tax increase.
The budget passed on a 6 to 3 vote, with council members Emilio Navarro, Paul Archetto, and Richard Santamaria dissenting.
Cranston Mayor Allan Fung praised the vote, saying the budget holds “the line on operating costs” and “appropriately” funds the schools. He said the tax increase “in large part was necessary to offset one-time budget plugs that some of those very same Council members voted for last year.”
