Carjacking in Warwick—Police Seek Help From Public Locating Vehicle

Warwick police are asking for the public's help in finding a vehicle reportedly involved in a carjacking in the city Saturday morning.
Police ask that people do not approach the vehicle if spotted, but instead call police (see below).

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTAccording to police, at approximately 9 am on Saturday, they responded to an armed robbery of a vehicle in the parking lot of the Joann Store located at 1500 Bald Hill Road.
A Warwick woman had just arrived at the store when she said she was approached by a white male subject who was described as being approximately 5’5” with a thin build. This male initially asked her if she needed help but then displayed a knife and demanded her vehicle.
The subject was successful in taking the vehicle, despite the woman resisting his demands -- and the intervention of a bystander who tried to help but instead was nearly struck by the suspect fleeing in the woman’s vehicle.
Neither the woman nor the bystander was injured.
The stolen vehicle is a gray 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle bearing Rhode Island registration XR-103.
Anyone who may see this vehicle, occupied or unoccupied, should not approach but instead call 911 immediately. The occupant(s) should be considered armed & dangerous.
