According to police, at approximately 9 am on Saturday, they responded to an armed robbery of a vehicle in the parking lot of the Joann Store located at 1500 Bald Hill Road.

A Warwick woman had just arrived at the store when she said she was approached by a white male subject who was described as being approximately 5’5” with a thin build. This male initially asked her if she needed help but then displayed a knife and demanded her vehicle.

The subject was successful in taking the vehicle, despite the woman resisting his demands -- and the intervention of a bystander who tried to help but instead was nearly struck by the suspect fleeing in the woman’s vehicle.

Neither the woman nor the bystander was injured.

The stolen vehicle is a gray 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle bearing Rhode Island registration XR-103.

Anyone who may see this vehicle, occupied or unoccupied, should not approach but instead call 911 immediately. The occupant(s) should be considered armed & dangerous.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Warwick Police Department at (401)468-4200. Anonymous information can also be left on the TIPS line at (401)722-8477(732-TIPS).
