The Huffington Post listed Bristol as one of the top places in the country for 4th of July festivities, naturally.

A new ranking on the Huffington Post tells us something we already know: Bristol is one of the top spots in America to celebrate Independence Day.

The elite group of 11 U.S. cities and towns labeled Bristol’s Fourth of July celebrations as “festivities worth travelling for,” but for us lucky Rhode Islanders, it's pretty much in our own backyard.

As most Rhode Islanders know, Bristol boasts the oldest continuous Fourth of July celebrations, with their first Military, Civic, and Firemen’s parade held in 1785. And Bristol’s festivities actually kick off three weeks before the big day, with music, sports, and patriotic festivities.

The famous fireworks are held on the evening of July 3rd, but the main attraction of the town parade is held on the 4th. This year’s parade will step off the corner of Chestnut Street and Hope Street at 10:30am.

Other top-ranked cities include the nation’s capital of Washington D.C., the country’s birthplace of Philadelphia, and our neighboring city of Boston. More subdued celebrations at Mount Rushmore also made the cut, allowing our nation’s founding fathers to look down on the festivities. Bristol may be small in comparison, but it’s hard to beat for the Fourth of July!
